Stocker Head Rule Change????
My son goes to UNOH, and a teacher at the facility stated -NHRA is changing the rules on head work on stocker heads for 2009; He stated that you are allowed to port/polish the head as long as it does not exceed 170 cc's. I was wondering if this is true???

Re: Stocker Head Rule Change????
Bruce, i have not heard anything close to this. We are allowed any Valve job including bowl Cut as long as it is done on centerline of the valve guide. Any Valve job means any angle on the valve seat or the valve it self and no more .250 under or above the seat, the .250 is omitted!;)

Re: Stocker Head Rule Change????
Thanks for the imput, but my son's teacher at UNOH is in the process of doing a couple pairs of heads for stockers that are running with NHRA this year. These heads ar suppose to be used in the 2009 NHRA season. I am just trying to find out if this teacher is telling the truth or if the stockers are just going to do this on their own! My son corredted me on one item-it is 170cfm's on the flow bench and not a 170 cc's.

Re: Stocker Head Rule Change????
Hilghly unlikely NHRA would have a blanket rule of "170 CFM" intake or even 170cc volume to cover all makes as there are many makes which exceed these numbers (both CFM & CC as delivered from Detroit. Also, highly unlikely NHRA would carry a flow bench with them to check flow.
Now, would NHRA allow porting to published SS port volumes? That's more realistic but I would opinion highly unlikely. At least not in the near future... |

Looks like Chad and I were thinking and typing alike...:)

Re: Stocker Head Rule Change????
Jeff,
Looks like Chad's reaction time was better than yours... :~) This sounds like some racers that have told the teacher what to do. I would be calling a Div Tech or national Tech dept to check this out if I were in his shoes. That sounds like too much departure from Stocker heads & current rules. More like Super Stock. Sure would surprise me if they (NHRA) allowed something like this. Adger Smith On Bob's sign in.... |
Re: Stocker Head Rule Change????
Head rule for 2009, I was told they were not pouring intake or exhaust runner, and no specs, like super stock, They can pour runner if they want, no welding or grinding in ports, but no spec`s like SS for runner size, combustion chamber will checked per nhra rule. vavle rules same as 2008, But by 2010 they may change rules again, to SS runner size, you never known what they may do?
