Who's the best with a Super Stock convertor rebuild?
I have an 8 inch TCT convertor in my car that needs freshend I think; who do you guys think is the best out there. I have 72 Ford Mustang, 313 nhra rated open chamber cleveland, C-4 with 2.46 low gear, 6.20 gears, convertor currently will flash 6100 but I think I need to be a little looser as my peak power is in the upper 8000 rpm range.

I use Coan for my bracket stuff, talk to Art Reed, but you may want to talk to ATI and compare, they seem to be able maintain great slip percentages even on loose stall converters.

Smitty,
I have been running an ATI converter since the early eighties. As a matter of fact that is the converter that I have in the car now. I had it rebuilt by ATI about 3 years ago. I would highly reccomend ATI. I also use some Coan parts in my powerglide. They are very helpful and easy to work with. I think either one could build a good converter for you. |

BTW, I got the trans out Mike, Rebel is going to have it looked at by one of his friends to see what the issue is with it. I figure while it was out I should probably have the convertor looked at. |

Hi Smitty, I'm Lenny, formerly of TCT. Depending on when you purchased your TCT converter, I probably sold and built it for you. I overhaul and update most brands myself at our new facility. If I can be of any help, feel free to contact me personally.

Re: Who's the best with a Super Stock convertor rebuild?
Smitty,
As I remember the price of the rebuild on my converter was about $350.00. It was an extensive reconfiguration to up the stall speed from about 5400 to 6200. Alot had to be changed. They wont know what they need to do with your converter until they cut it apart and see how it is set up. My converter was an ATI to start with. ATI keeps good records for every converter they build. You can call them with the serial number and they can tell you exactly how it is set up and how it will work with a certian combo. I am sure the other converter companies do the same type of record keeping. I have only used ATI. Jay has a Munsinger in his car. It took him forever to get it back from Munsinger when he sent it for a rebuild. ATI turned mine around in 24 hours. |

I heard that Munsinger were good convertors and was offered a used peice for around $600, we will see. Are you freshning up your engine this winter? |
