Hubert Platt called yesterday to ask me what I did with my 1968 super Stock Mustang that he raced at Pomona and I bought from him in 1969. I had to give him the bad news that in 1975 we started to update it to current NHRA rules by tubbing it. The gas crunch was putting my Dad's used car lot out of business and I left the shell behind my body shop that I was renting when I left. I had no where to take it to and someone smashed the acid dipped fender and we never finished tubbing it. I heard about 30 years ago it was in a junk yard in Bradenton. The reason he was wondering is because Ford is bringing him to the Winternationals to be part of the new Cobra Jet Stocker program at Pomona.

Rusty, I also owned one of Huberts cars,,,the 1969 Blue factory drag team car....I sold it back in the 80's and the car is supposedly back to all original form....now a 100 point restoration which I was told had an offer for $750,000 last year. It was purchased from me by a well known Ford restorer for a 3rd party. I may be able to guide Hubert to it ....Rick Yanen.....jryracing@aol.com

Rick it makes me sick to think I just left it to be junked. At least I still have the 1969 Q code Boss 302 test car I bought from Hubert in 1970 and started racing in 1971. I also have Ken McLellan's 1971 World Finals winning 1969 Cobrastang that I bought in 1973 it has 19 street miles. I will start the restoration sometime this year.
