SS 4speed G-force or Jerico ?
 
Any input on the pros and cons of these trannys. Thanks Scott

I've used a Jerico for 6 years with no problems.

I still have the Narrow gear Jerico I bought in 1988. I couldn't begin to tell you how many runs it has on it. It has never let me down.

Scott, what type of S/S combo are you considering? Like Bob & Rod, I have been very happy with my Jerico DR4`s, obviously my 302 Mustang M/Stocker doesn`t abuse a trans like a heavier high HP combo, but I also have a Jerico in my 3100 lb bracket car, that runs 10.0`s at 132mph, and has 60 footed in the high 1.2`s, and in the 8 years since I switched from an automatic to the Jerico, I have yet to have broken anything in the trans.Of course an overly agressive clutch setup would be much harder on parts than the modern low pressure sintered iron clutches that most racers use these days.

thanks for the info . Im running a 66 chevy2 SS/K been running this combo for a while now. I also have a 88 vintage jerico and a mid 90s model took over 500 runs in a mid ten second bracket car before the 88 trans broke. the newer one broke 3rd gear at about 25 runs in the chevy2. The only problems I have are generally with 3rd gear. I have a soft-loc and a advanced unit.

Scott I have a power glide I can sell you no more troubles.... yeah I know you like pullin them gears. See you in the spring, what races are you planning to run this year?

Absolutely no problems with the Jerico and also excellent customer service. That's my two cents worth!!!

I have made over 90 passes in my 4000 lb Chevy Impala big block Stocker with the Jerico, no problem. Also run a Soft-Lok clutch with 14lb flywheel. One of the things going for the G-Force is you are able to run a underdriven 4th gear if so inclined. I believe Rich Feldman with his Impala SS/O 283 car runs the underdriven 4 and final gear. He does that because you only want to go so low with your rearend gears, I think he has 6:17 gear in rear, with a big ole Chevy you don't want that pinoin gear too small!

Most of the guys running the Pro Stick series uses the Jerico. There are quite a few G-Force transmissions being run also.

I have noticed the Jerico doesn't like a paddle clutch, (Yes, some guys still run that stuff.), and also needs the ball type bearing in the rear of the crank to support the input shaft close to the splines. I have broken several inputs until someone told me that rather important bit of information. Haven't broken anything since.

The G-Force-101 seems to hold up better in the heavy, higher horsepower/torque cars. The 'latest and greatest' GF-4 has what is commonly referred to as handcuffs between 2nd and 3rd gear to resist the mainshaft and cluster from spreading apart under load. If my memory serves me correct, the old Nash torque-tube transmissions had this feature. I have one of the GF-4's in my SS car. I'm impressed with this one.

The transmission choice is yours, however, the clutch is not. Use a soft-loc. Soft is fast and cuts down on broken parts.

we run a g-force with a rag clutch. you can run a paddle clutch but be sure it is sprung center. they are right about the sintered iron disk, the best of both worlds. but we have not ran quicker with it. maybe we are doing something wrong.
