Re: HELP Polishing SS Headers
3m makes a mandrel that holds 3 inch scotchbrite discs in various grits they work awesome,
you can mount it in a die grinder or small electric grinder. #07485,07513,07513 are the 3 grits i used. |
Re: HELP Polishing SS Headers
The 3M pads will help in preparing the surface, but to achieve a good lustre, you'll need a woven cloth buff on a high speed mandrel, and some black emory, or brown or red polishing rouge. ....Eastwood has all the stuff you'll need ,except the ambition and energy that will be required. ....BTW different series of stainless polish differently as far as lustre and brightness. .....Tom

Re: HELP Polishing SS Headers
tom is right if you want a serious chrome type finish you will need to use some type of rouge, the
3m discs will get you to a very fine satin finish with no surface defects. if you go over the welds with a tig torch after this process it leaves a very cool blue weld at each joint that looks great just remember to inner purge with argon or similar gas to keep the inside free of contamination.. |
