Max Jets and pin guages

Just wondering the pro's and con's with max jets and pin guages? Also does anybody know where to get a set of pin guages?

Thanks

Try enco, accurate and reasonably priced. You can select plus or minus
diameter......

I have used max Jets for 10 yrs, think thet are great. More choices in jet sizes.

I was just checking out Enco's website the only question I have is what's the difference between the plus and minus on the tolerence? Is it if you have the plus and your using a .010" guage that has a tolerence of .001". That the guage would be between .010" and .011" not .009" to .010"???

One more question for you. Now correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the holley jets go by flow and the max jets by orifice size? Just trying to get my thinking straight here.

Thanks

Holley jets are sized by flow. Max Jets are drilled. Some carb builders take Holley jets & drill them out.

Pin & drill sets are nice to have. I got mine from another racer but don't know where he got them

Holley jets are rated by cc's per minute flow in volume. If you have access to a flow bench it is very easy to match the required jet to the dry air flow of the carburetor, then from there it all becomes a function of the atomization circuit and the fuel curve.

On the question of the pin gauge diameter: Example a .010 diameter:
Minus = .009
plus = .011

A good guage pin set will run like this

minus .010 pin = .0097-.0099

plus .010 pin = .0100-.0102

Try MSC, McMaster Carr or Grainger. MSC is you best bet, they are the Walmart of industrial tool supplies.

Most sets run from .011-.060 and then .061-.250. The bigger sets can get pretty expensive.

Another way is to use the shanks of the drills in a number drill set. You don't have every .001 increment but you can get an idea of the hole size. They run from #60 (.040) up to a #1 (.228 I think).
