Strange eng master cyl?
Purchased one for my 70 nova, went to put it on and the hole pattern is wrong. it is a little over 3/8 to narrow. Anyone else have this problem with thirs before? I will call them on Monday, but as far as the catalog goes, that is it. I have the 1.032 cyl , they said I needed this one because I have drum brakes in the back. I would imagine the bigger bore cyl would still have the same bolt pattern , I was told that these were originaly Dodge parts anyway. If I was to slot it, it would be very close to breaking out on the sides. I am not crazy about that.
Thanks, Tony |

Re: Strange eng master cyl?
you may have to get the adapter plate and relocate the push rod hold on the firewall ,the other thing that you will have to watch is the brake pedal geometery,if not correct you could have a break pedal thats way to hard or travels to much, close to the floor, just like any other componet on a race car there will be some trial and error before you get it right
on my car i ended up going with a 7/8 diameter master (i also have rear drums with wilwood front calipers gmonde |
Re: Strange eng master cyl?
I've installed a Wilwood and a Strange and the bolt pattern on them is too narrow. You just have to open up the holes on a mill sideways or have fun using a file! After opening up the holes, the material on the sides is pretty narrow. I've also seen where people have move the studs in the firewall.

Re: Strange eng master cyl?
on a friends 69 camaro, I used a willwood 7/8 bore, disc front drum rear.bolted right up where power booster did no mods but, I need to make a spacer as the pushrod which is attached to master was too long. works real well.

Re: Strange eng master cyl?
Had this problem on a cutlass last year with the 1"master. I knocked the studs out of the pedal bracket, ovaled the holes with the die grinder, and used some grade 8 bolts. Didn't modify the master at all. Works great, no problems.

Re: Strange eng master cyl?
I put the Strange master cyl on my 69 Camaro. Slotted the holes, added flat washers to increase clamping force and still good 15 years later.

What about the lines ? Are they a pretty good match ?

Re: Strange eng master cyl?
I did the same as Jim Grande with the slots and washers. works great. Kenny my master cylinder had metric threads in it. I had to match up some new fittings and reflare the lines. Pretty easy install.
