T-400 fluid?
I am sure this has been discussed to death, but my search has not answered my ???? satisfactorily......
I am running a T-400 with a manual ( Hypster, reverse pattern) valve body (drag race only application, no trans brake). My question is. Going with the recommendations of my "trans guy" I run the Dexron III fluid. I liked that because it was easy to get/find....... Well I went to get my supply for the upcoming race season, and found it very hard to find. Can anyone clue me in on this? Why is the Dexron III going away? Can you "trans guys" tell me what I should substitute for my "old standby"? I guess I could ask my "trans guy" but I have all this "been there, done that" information at my disposal, so I thought I would tap into it..TIA |
Re: T-400 fluid?
I've been using Mobil 1, synthetic can take the heat better.

Re: T-400 fluid?
Dexron 6, good stuff, but it ain't cheap

Re: T-400 fluid?
Be careful using Dex VI. Dex VI is not compatable with the material that is used to manufacture some seals.

Re: T-400 fluid?
All GM Dextron fluids at back compatible. The newer fluids, were developed as an improvement on past fluids, and are more stabile, and maintain their viscosity better, cold to hot. Part of the reason for the new Dex 6 fluid is to have a 100,000 mile service life in cars running normal conditions. Heavy duty driving still needs fluid swaps as recommended in the owners manual.

Re: T-400 fluid?
Mopar ATF+4 also performs very well in race applications. .........holds up very well in high heatand has excelent anti foaming properties.....Even available at Walmart! ....I've been using it for about 5 years in both my stocker,a TH400,without a cooler, and my SG car, which runs in high gear all the way down the track. ......No wear problems,or clutch issues. .....Tom
