Help Figuring GT Car Classification
 
I am considering either the 1964 comet 289/233HP combo with the Canfield Replacement Heads, or the 1968 Cougar 302/230HP with the same heads. This would be a stick car if I go forward. Where I am having trouble is figuring the weight as I am looking at putting this in a 1995-97 Ford Probe which of course never had the V-8. I do want to set it up for as lite as possible. If you have access to Microsoft Excel, download this spreadsheet:

You can enter the shipping weight of the car, which you can get from the NHRA classification guide on their website, and the factored HP of the engine you want to run, and the spreadsheet will tell you what classes you can run and what the minimum weights are for each class.

looks like you'd have to use 2808 as the shipping weight. I think you have to use the heaviest weight if not originally made with a v8

For some reason I can't get into the NHRA classification guides. But if Chris's shipping weight number is right, you can run the following (all weights are minimums and include the 170lb driver adder):
289/233
GT/F @ 2616 Lbs
GT/G @ 2733
GT/H @ 2849
GT/I @ 2966
GT/J @ 3082

302/230
GT/G @ 2700
GT/H @ 2815
GT/I @ 2930
GT/J @ 3045
GT/K @ 3160

I looked at the NHRA classification and see the high end weight of 2808. I also was looking at the Boss 302 and see it hasnt been re-classified since 2002, would this be a viable option or would the HP rating of 295 kill the idea of running the car around 2700-2900lbs ?

The Boss 302 engine in the Probe can run

GT/B @ 2677 Lbs
GT/C @ 2825
GT/D @ 2972
GT/E @ 3120
GT/F @ 3267

295 HP seems a little high for that engine, but it might work if you can find the heads without selling your soul. You can also write a letter to NHRA asking for a HP reduction on the engine which might be looked on favorably since there don't seem to be any running in competition right now. They might drop it to 287 or so on request.

Do you have a Probe suitable for RWD conversion? It's not going to be cheap to build.
