5.0 Ford cam, thoughts??
1994 Mustang Gt, fits O/SA, 3395lbs, .30 inch tire, 5.13 gear, 9 inch convertor, flashes to 4200, AODE with a 2.84 low gear, E shift, leave chipped at 2000 to stay green. 444 oem lift. I am working towards the index and need a little more. I have a 242/246 duration @ 050 hydrulic roller made by a local cam company in the car now but I am not sure if it is any better running than the OEM cam. Need to try something different. I am running the original 100,000 mile long block and using it as my learning curve in my fuel injection education. I have made lots of progress but need a bit more. Any thoughts?
Thanks much Charlie Allen 7423 |
Re: 5.0 Ford cam, thoughts??
I`m curious why you chose a AOd instead of a C4. As I understand it, the AOD saps a bunch more power than the C4. As for a cam, I`d just call John Partridge at Bullet Cams, and give him your info.

I think you might want to loosen the converter a bunch. |
Re: 5.0 Ford cam, thoughts??
That is alot of duration to be leaving at that low of an rpm. what rpm are you running through the traps?
The cam you have may need advanced a little. what are your 60' times? |

I have heard that the AODE may be holding me back some. I would love to hear from someone who has run the AODE and a C4 and really knows the difference on a time slip. Mike I have thought about a looser convertor, I was afraid it would never lock up in high and lose all I would gain in low gear. Chris It is at 5800 in the traps. Shifts at 6000-6200. Best 60 is 1.78. Best ET is 13.94 @ 95MPH at 3000DA Thanks for input boys Charlie |
Re: 5.0 Ford cam, thoughts??
Does the AODE have a lock-up converter? I used to run the original AOD in my car. It had the two piece input shaft that actually locked up 1 to 1 like a stick car in drive. It really killed the car on the 2-3 shift though.
If you switch to a C-4, make sure you get a full roller/race version with a low gear set. I went from the AOD to a street/strip C4 with very little difference. Same brand of converter (PTC). More top end rpm and I believe about 2 mph. Do you know anyone you could borrow a set of 28" tires from? I would try them too. |
Re: 5.0 Ford cam, thoughts??
Add 10 degrees to you cam #'s put a C4 in it with 2.91 low gear & call ATI for a converter! ;)

Re: 5.0 Ford cam, thoughts??
I can't comment on the transmission issue....however, are you still using a stock 94/95 EEC? Older EEC's do not pull timing on the shift.
