Motor Home Towing
Not sure if this belongs here or not....feel free to move it.
I have a '36 motor home with the triton V10 and a '28 enclosed trailer with a 3600 car. Some of the Ford dealers have told me that the transmission won't last long if I tow my rig with it others said it would. Does anyone tow with the Triton V10 and whatever trans that comes with it? I'm pretty much stuck with this motor home thanks to the divorce judge and I'd like to get some use out of it before it becomes a flower pot! Help! |
Re: Motor Home Towing
I don't have experience with the V10/auto, I have a 6.0 diesel/auto that I use
to tow both my travel trailer and open car trailer. I use the tow mode on shifter. But be sure you have the hitch checked and beefed if needed for towing your 28 ft trailer. Also make sure you have a decent size trans cooler installed. If you use the tow mode and run at a conservative speed, I don't see why you would have any problems. But that means towing at 55-65 mph NOT 75-80. |
Re: Motor Home Towing
We've done hitch work on numerous motorhomes with that type of motor and I don't hear anyone complaining of trans problem. I think as long as you follow typical maintenance you shouldn't have a problem. I certainly wouldn't be afraid of towing with the unit. You might want to add a trans temperature gauge but I really don't think you're going to notice anything strange.

Re: Motor Home Towing
the thing that will help that unit is a trans cooler ,it may have a factory one on it but, put the biggest one you can fit on it and by pass the radiator you don t need the engine temp to build any heat, unless you towing in sub zero temps you dont need it,you should be ok,amd like mentioned trans temp gauge is key gmonde

Re: Motor Home Towing
My dad has one that he pulls a 28 ft trailer with. Has been fo about 6 years, Never a problem. The triton v10 lacks on power, so he added the Banks system, and it made a HUGE difference, as far as tranny, no probs.
