Class Racer Site?

Don't know if this has been asked before, but when did this site first appear on the 'Web?

Wow, it's been that long! Great place to "bench race" and pick up a thing or two....Sure beats "Repeat" cable TV to spend your free time on......Keep it going and try not to change.....too much!

Re: Class Racer Site?

I can't think of but two things I'd change about this site; it was apparently so well-thought-out before it was put into operation, the way I see it, not much in the way of change is needed, even after all these years!

1. I think that most long-term posters on here agree that a change to "real names" would benefit the credibility of the posts here. I can't see an up-side to anonymous postings, and plenty of downsides.

2. The photo-posting system could be better, at least, for me. I have tried using Photobucket and my pictures still come out small, as thumbnails, and when clicked on, they get bigger, but are still smallish.

Some people are able to post full-page pictures that would seem to be outside the very restrictive size-limits of the posting rules; how they are able to do that is a mystery to me. I would be more than willing to pay some sort of surcharge to post my pictures just as they exist on my hard drive, without having to reduce them in size, if that were possible. I know that bandwidth costs money.

But, those two changes are precious little in the way of modifications to a well-thought-out Board that seems to work exccedingly well for most of us.

I'd be lost without it!

Thanks, and kudos to the Moderators and Admininstrator for a job well done!!!

Bill

The pics I post from photobucket, and are full size are done using the links from photobucket and not attached from my hard drive. The attachment from hard drive sounds like the issue you describe. Have you tried the different links?

Re: Class Racer Site?

Thanks SS, Bill I appreciate your kind words. It is allot of work to maintain the site, but I think it turned out well. I'm always thinking of new features to keep the site fresh. One idea I have been kicking around is a live chat. Not open all the time, just a one or two days in the middle of the week. Not sure members would want to chat live, we did have this feature a while back but no one used it.

As far as real names, there is a section for racers only with the real names, and as you can see it is not popular. Real names are nice, but for now I will respect the anonymity of the members that wish to not use their real name.

Bill, if you want your pictures to be the same size as what you took them with you need to use photobucket. The only reason I can see the pictures showing up small like the thumbnail, is your link may be to the thumbnail and not the full-size picture. Send me the url of the pictures you are trying to link, maybe I can figure it out for you.

The reason the pictures have to be re-sized is for bandwidth and keeping the pictures manageable. If you noticed some members have the cameras set on a high resolution and the pictures are so big, they are off the screen.

Sean, both you and the Admin. (Ken?) may be onto somethhing. I'm going to try some different things by way of posting using different PhotoBucket links, and see what I can accomplish.

Thanks to both of you for the help; you've got me thinking, now... (not always a good thing...) :(
