Rescheduled Atco Divisional
This seems to be a big topic over in the S/SS forum so I figured I'd bring it over here...
Do you guys think they should let new entries into the race in October? Seems like people are gonna get screwed any way you slice it. I already know of one racer that has decided to not come in October because he knows since he didn't enter this weekend (broke car) he knows he will be among the most screwed people only getting a time run or two and those runs will probably be when the dew sets in about 6 or 7pm. This could be a big money making weekend for Atco like when Maple Grove had their Spring Open and Divisional the same weekend and I'm sure people would take 2 days off for one tow/two races/two grade points Thurs-Sunday. Re: Rescheduled Atco Divisional
First off Kelli stop playing on the computer and do some work!!!!
Second my thoughts are mixed. I mean we didn't go because of the threat of rain ALL WEEKEND and FAMILY BIRTHDAYS. Atco is only 30 minutes from our house and always a track we love to go to for the divisonal. I can see them closing the fields for Stock, Super Stock, Comp and TAFC and TAD because they all qualify on a ladder so it's not fair to someone who comes the 2nd weekend and try's to enter the race and wasn't there for the 1st weekend on that part. That screws up the ladders and qualifing for the event. As far as S/Street, S/Gas and S/Comp I wouldn't see a problem with them opening up the entries again for anyone who couldn't make it the first time around but then it's not fair to the other classes that are already set in a qualified field to not allow more entries but allow entries in other classes. From what I've heard the race is suppose to be run on either Thursday or Friday so that means for some people they have to almost skip a week of work to travel or get in late Wednesday night and by the time October comes unless you own your own buisness Personal time is skating on thin ice by then because we've used it up throughout the year. I just think they should have scheduled it around July, maybe run it in 1 day and give Sunday as a travel/Rain date. I know IHRA doesn't come close to getting as many cars as a NHRA race does but they seem to have no problem running 2 or 3 divisional races in 1 weekend. Jsut my thoughts... |
Re: Rescheduled Atco Divisional
Here's my thought.
The fields should be closed, period. While it may not in the best interest $$ wise, the people that didn’t show up because they didn’t want to sit in the rain…blah, blah, blah shouldn’t be able to Run next time. After all if we would have run the race, they opted not to go by choice, be it weather or whatever so why punish the people that attended. The fields should be and stay closed in all categories my opinion. One more reason is this, that late in the season with "points" on the line if the fields were "open" that gives anyone from anywhere a chance to attend and do damage. Again this is just my opinion...bring on the bashing... Debbie Moses |

Your completely wrong on this matter, you have no right saying what your saying. I have no idea why your wrong, just wanted to do a little bashing. As you can tell, i am a little slow at work and have to much time on my hands. |
Re: Rescheduled Atco Divisional
I say, OPEN IT UP.
Stock and Super Stock have random first round pairings in the rescheduled October race, so no matter how fast or slow they qualified in June, it has NO bearing on the rescheduled October race. From a racer standpoint in the three .90 classes, you were going to be a random pairing in June so what advantage or disadvantage do you really have if they open up the fields in October. I can appreciate the fact that some people made the drive to Atco to ultimately sit around and never compete in a round of competition, but what difference does this make when allowing new entries to now attend? Are we rewarding patronage or penalizing absence? If this was a Big Dollar bracket race or you typical Saturday/Sunday one day bracket race the decision would be a, "No Brainer" and universal throughout the country. The fields would be open. From a financial standpoint, the tracks have been taking a beating this year with the rain, I say let Joe Sway and the NHRA get a chance to recoup some lost income, it only makes sense. For those that didn't attend, whether it be a financial decision to stay home and wait for a better weather forecast, a broken race car, a business (job) commitment or a host of other reasons, in today's economy and financial climate if you don't cater to your consumer shame on you. As far as allowing persons from other divisions to attend and potentially receive double points for one weekend...that's how it should be. If you are the best on that day you deserve to win. I don't care what division you are from. There is enough talent in Division 1 to hold our own against invaders. Maggiulli Jr. |
Re: Rescheduled Atco Divisional
Johnny makes some great points but... word from the "top" is, fields WILL NOT be re-opened. Deb's reasons were just about dead-on. It also looks like if you show up for the originally scheduled October event there will only be 2 time runs, one Friday and 1 Saturday.
Oh well.... Off to LVD! -Don 6/23/2009 Atco Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Rained Out Due to the inclement weather throughout the weekend, the Atco Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event has been postponed to October 2. The fields are set and no new entries will be accepted. Stock and Super Stock first round will be random pairing. On Friday morning, we will give ALL competitors one time run and then run the first event to completion. Saturday Morning there will be one time run followed by first round eliminations of the second event. |
Re: Rescheduled Atco Divisional
John,
This isnt a bracket race. If you didnt attend the first time for whatever the reason, and we ran the race, no one who "sat home" would be complaining. Just missed the race. But because those of us who did stay and wait for them to call the race, why should we be penalized because we chose to attend. I agree that financially everyone is taking a hit, but again if we ran the race on the scheduled date the money wouldnt have changed. This is like arm chair quaterbacking....love those monday's Pete, LOL!!! Debbie |
Re: Rescheduled Atco Divisional
I agree w/ John but I was not there last weekend and I will be in the fall so my opinion is a little tainted (yes I did just say tainted) .
Deb had a very good point about points implacations (hope I spelled that correct) but rather you get 2 shots @ points in one place or have to travel, I believe if your in the hunt, you will do what is needed. At worst, I would let people in and give them the grade point if they wanted it (not in the points hunt but still want the grade) and let them compete, but don't let their points count. This way it lets Joe and NHRA rebound and get some extra money and give a chance for some extra people to compete. I would race and not take the grade, but be willing to spend to have a chance at some $$$ and Wally. If I'm not in the top 5 when the race comes around, I would take the grade. It has been an awful year for the tracks, I would just hate to see them have to turn away people that want to race. |

The June race is over. No winner and no losers. There is no ladder in Stock/Super Stock and no pairings in the lanes for the three .90 classes. I say, new day, new race, new racers. But what do I know, I've been known to not see eye to eye with the NHRA. Maggiulli Jr. |
Re: Rescheduled Atco Divisional
Implicated.....
They should keep the fields open and all new players get no points and can be blockers. |
