East Coast Drag Times Hall of Fame

It is almost the first of October and the East Coast Drag Times Hall of Fame in Henderson, North Carolina is only two weeks away. The streets of downtown Henderson will be filled with over a Thousand classic cars and trucks and more old Funny Cars, Dragsters, Altereds, Gasser, F/X, Super Stock and Pro Stock cars and drivers than ever before. There will be many cars that have either just had restoration completed or original cars.

"Old timers" come out and see old friends, young racers, friends and just drag race fans who enjoy the history of our sport, come out and talk with the drivers and see the dozens and dozens of cars that made drag race history.

See you there.

Wonder if anybody's restored Charlie Hill's wheelstanding "FILTHY FORTY"????

That old Gasser was in several of the East Coast Drag Times I used to see, back in 1962-'63. How those neat little magazines made their way all the way to Little Rock, Arkansas back then, I'll probably never know, but they sure were fun to read!

Was Monk Reynolds of S/S and DI fame (publisher) responsible for that paper? Seems like he was...

The original Filthy Forty is gone. There is a replica that I believe is from Maine and comes to many of the east coast nostalgia shows.

Monk Reynolds did start Eastern Drag News. Eventually EDN went away and SS&DI took over. He did publish both for awhile though in '65. I'm 3 issues away from a complete set of Eastern Drag News. If anyone has any they would like to sell let me know. I also have some doubles to trade.

Anyone who is a drag racing or classic car enthusiast needs to experience this event in Henderson,NC.In the past few years the show has been getting better and better. Thousands of people, hundreds of Detroit muscle cars, drag racing icons( Big Daddy Don Garlits,Linda Vaughan, Shirl Greer, Ronnie Sox, and many others have attended in years past) and live classic rock music abound. You'll even get a whiff of nitro in the air when they fire up the old AA/FD dragsters.

The crackle from the header, the smell of nitro and the drivers in the aluminum hood with breathers make good video and photos.

Bill,

I was at Atco the night that Charlie set the car completely on the back bumper...it was awesome, it seemed like it took forever to come down. Atco even advertised in the paper looking for anyone that may have gotten a picture unfortunately no one did.

WOW! I wish I could get down there. I hope someone posts some photos. That sounds like a great event.
I think the Ewings were inducted into that Hall of Fame last year. Cool.

You are right John, we were. It's hard to explain how neat it is down there, they actually shut the whole town down and the cars park along the street where all the stores and retaurants are. At every block or so they have a band playing (some with dancers) along with all kind of vendors. It's wall to wall cars and spectators, everyone should try and go there. When the show is over everyone drives their car down the street, we did a hefty burn out infront of all those Sox and Martin cars that were sitting there. It sure was a good time. .
