66 BelAir Stock Elim. Car
A friend has a 66 Bel Air 2dr post in real nice shape ,and he's talking about stock elim ! He also has a couple of 427's that he would like to have built for the car ! The car will be an automatic !
Does he have to run a 12 bolt, or could he use a Dana S-60 ! I did'nt know if he could , as i'm a Mopar person ! Where would this fit as far as Class ? Thanks for the help,,,,,,,,,,,John |

X- Tech Man,,,,,,, Do you have any idea where a person would figure the weight of a BARGE like this, to see what class it would fit in ?
Anybody know about the engine combination, as far as the cam , etc, could it be competitive ?,,,,,,,,Thanks again ! Later ,,,,,,,,,,, John |

Re: 66 BelAir Stock Elim. Car
John the 427 390 HP is rated at 10.25 comp. with 96.4 c.c. oval port heads. It uses a Q Jet Carb and has a cast iron intake manifold. Not sure of the number as its not listed on my specs. (Might be the same as a 396/325 HP engine?) The bore is 4.250 and the stroke is 3.766. It has .008 deck and a dome piston of .140 thou. The legal piston numbers can be found on the NHRA piston list. The intake valve is 2.07 and the exhaust is 1.725. The cam lift is .462 intake and .480 exhaust. It uses an outer spring with dampner. Head gasket is .028 and the 7 different allowed head casting numbers are as follows.......702, 390, 802, 215, 063, 280, and 290. These are the last 3 numbers for each. Hope this helps.

Re: 66 BelAir Stock Elim. Car
Many moons ago, I had one with a 283/220 horse PG combibation. It had a 12 bolt, and went into P/SA and with the 220 horse factor x 16 pounds +170 for driver's weight,it weighed in at 3690 minimum. It ran a 6.14 gear and I left at 4000 against the converter, shifted at 7400 and went through the lights at 7800 at 98 miles per. Never blew that thing up, what with cast Badger pistons and stock valves and all, but if it would have broken the engine in the lights, the destruction would have been complete. A 66 Chevelle station wagon was an easier car for that class. The 427/390 with the automatic sounds neat, however.
