IHRA Sportsman

Polburn did alot of "side stepping" in his interview(s) regarding the future of "other classes". Is is safe to assume the ProAm series will be the only place for class racing? Or will traditional sportsman categories be run during the "NitroJam" circus?

It sickens me to think NHRA is the only sanctioning body with Stock & Super Stock.

I emailed D4 reps at IHRA this week asking about pro-ams next year. I was told by Frank that they had commitments from Crandall and Baton Rouge so far waiting on Pine Valley and a fourth TBD as there 4 races in D4 for 2010. Losing San Antonio and now Tulsa hurt IHRA in D4,

Skooter,
Told us last week nothing would change for the sportsman, and it should be better.

I took the time this morning to read the interview. Sounds like the sportsman will remain the same and maybe even be a better deal. You at least know what time you will be done by by days end. The weather factor is the only thing that may screw up the sportsman, just as it does now. With IHRA the show will go on. Hey, they are even having a fan fest. Some of you sportsman may even be asked to sign an autograph or two by some wayward fan. If you haven't read the interview please take the time to. They just might be on to something here.

I read the bit about the future of Rockingham and Steve Earwood's positive outlook on the sportsman side of the organization. I've always been willing to give money to IHRA as I know I'll get something in return.....unlike "the other guys" who take our money then kick us in the nuts.

Terry Earwood is being rewarded by IHRA by moving the FINALS in October to Dinwiddie, VA. That will really indirectly benefit the racers by not having to deal with the North Carolina Hijackers (DMV, State Police, Weights and measures {Marvin Graves}, etc.). It is probably a blessing in disguise to Earwood, in that; he can have an open weekend to conduct a "normal" event and attract 900 cars, instead of the "Tournament of Champions" 270 cars, and make some real money before winter.

Just read Comentary on Competitionplus.com. Hard to argue with most of it. I guess time will tell if these changes will benefit or hurt the Sportsman racer, I for one find it hard to believe that many companies will want to align themselves with a paid in show. Without what I consider a legitimate Pro show it's basically reverted to something like Baders' "night of fire" without the "big names" as the draw. I wish IHRA the best, however I still doubt the decision making of it's 2 leaders. Joe
