Hoosier 30" Radial Designation
Just curious as to what you guys think of my proposal. I would like to see the 92.5" called a 29.5/9-15 and the 94" called 30/9-15. I think this would help a lot of racers remember what size they are running. A lot of times at the track when someone comes to to buy tires and are asked which size are you running they are not sure on 30x9 or 9x30 I have to ask the rollout or they go back and check. Just trying to make it easier.Or would this just confuse matters even worse?

Re: Hoosier 30" Radial Designation
That may be a good idea. I run both sizes and I usually refer to them as the "short" or "tall" tires.

Thanks Jim for replying. All these views and only one reply not good for me getting it changed. Maybe I should have said who I am posting this, never thought of it til now.

I like the idea.
As with most "change", communication will be key. Make sure everyone knows that you are not changing the tire at all, just trying to simplify the sizing. I, like most others, always have to ask "tall or short"? Just my opinion... they tend to vary! Good luck. Ken |
Re: Hoosier 30" Radial Designation
Yes, it is a very good idea to simplify/clarify the designation and size. I went through some confusion the first few times I bought tires from Keith here in the SE. I finally just started saying " 94" ". But it will help existing customers as well as new and potential customers.

Re: Hoosier 30" Radial Designation
I know of an IHRA Pure Stock racer that would be very happy with the change. He was at an IHRA event running the "small" tires, and somebody actually complained that the rules say that a Pure Stock has to have a 9 X 29.5 X 15 maximum sidewall designation.
It is beyond me how anybody could complain about this when a Crate Motor car can run a 10.5 inch wide tire. Anyways, the change of the designation seems like a good change to me.I run both sizes too. |
Re: Hoosier 30" Radial Designation
mr. tiremaster it seems this would be a good marketing oppertunity keeping the tires same as far as compounds, however it would open up a chance to get more sales to a group of racers that may not have extra clearance for taller tires and currently would not consider a 30x9.00x15 hoosier. They could easily and quickly see that you have a shorter tire they can buy to fit there car or truck.

Re: Hoosier 30" Radial Designation
I can remember when the Hoosiers used to say 92.5 or 94.0 right under the 30.0/9.0/15 tire size. Why not just go back to that?

Re: Hoosier 30" Radial Designation
Bruce,
I think this would be a good idea. When I talk to people about these tires you have to tell them which ones to get "tall" or "short". Make it easy. Robert |
Re: Hoosier 30" Radial Designation
The thing is, 92.5" circumference tires are a lot closer to 29.5" diameter than they are to 30", so it would make sense to call them 29.5/9.0/15. I'm surprised Hoosier hasn't already figured this out.
