1964 Chevelle 2 dr.or 4dr. wagon......
Were these cars factory available w/the 327 c.i. 300hp engine/Muncie 4sp. combo, and were the other available 8 cyl. combos: 195hp 283, 220hp 283, and 250 hp 327? Also, what stock class would the 300 hp, 2 and 4dr. versions run, if in fact the 300hp was available for these models? One last question...was there an auto trans available for the '64 Chevelle 300hp model available? Must be some '64 Chevelle experts here.....Much thanks. WJ

Re: 1964 Chevelle 2 dr.or 4dr. wagon......
Steve Hook here in Div.7 has a 65 Chevelle 4 door wagon with a 220 horse engine in P/SA. Multiplying the 220 horse engine factor times 16 (the class weight break) gives the cars weight without driver. All those small blocks weigh the same, but check the factored horsepower of the engine. It may be different for the 327/300 than the factory horsepower. Also, check the classification guide to determine if a desired engine combination actually came in that body.As for the 2 door wagon,I'm not sure what the weight was. When I was in high school some 40 years ago, I used to walk home every day and see a 65 2 door wagon parked in the street by a business with 327 emblems on it, and the chrome curved Muncie 4 speed shifter was visible in front of the bench seat. Neat car!!

Re: 1964 Chevelle 2 dr.or 4dr. wagon......
The'64 Chevelle 2-door wagon is legal in NHRA, the '65 2-door wagon is not. The '64 can be run with any of the engine/transmissions, but the original automatic was a powerglide only. Neat cars & hard to find.

Re: 1964 Chevelle 2 dr.or 4dr. wagon......
Thanks everyone for that info....I was told that the only dif between the 327/250 motor and the 327/300 motor was the 300 version ran a Carter 4bbl vs. a 4GC Rochester on the 250 hp?? Any other differences in these 2 motors, heads or anything? Again, thank you. WJ

Re: 1964 Chevelle 2 dr.or 4dr. wagon......
I origionally built my 2dr 1965 300 Deluxe for O/S in the mid 70's. Back the 65 models were prefered because the 64 year cars only had a 10 bolt rears and the 65 year the 12 bolts were available. If Dwight Southerland see this thread he knows these combos inside out.

Re: 1964 Chevelle 2 dr.or 4dr. wagon......
The '64 327/250 combo uses the 283 head while the 327/300 uses the 1.94/1.5 large valve heads (461, 462, etc.). In '65, the only difference in the combos was the 4GC for the 250 HP and Carter for the 300 HP. Intake manifolds were different for Stockers.
