Moser 83/4 Housings in Stock

Are the Moser housing legal for Stock? I recall seeing a new Challenger built with one that was a Stocker in one of the magazines.

I don't think the fabricated 8 3/4 from Moser is legal for stock. but I did see a post on here where MPR was building a challenger, and they used a 9" ford housing that had a faceplate from an 8 3/4 welded to the front, and I guess they got that approved . So It seems theese days if you want to build a new Ford or Dodge you can do just about whatever you want and it will get approved?

For what people are asking for A body housings, might as well buy one of these.

Yep thats our car #24

Moser got it approved , its not a fabbed housing.

I will say unless like us you are going for every ounce and to relocate the wieght where you want it, the dana 60 moser and strange makes (especially if you use moly tubes) dosent weigh much more (10-15 lbs ish) and is actually $200 CHEAPER !

But that was our decision, I know its approved for the Drag Pak car specifically....that should translate to other Mopars, but since its not a fabbed housing (as in plate) it should, be Ok, I would check with the Tech Guy for Stock and SS at the NHRA Bachelder, I cant remeber his first name (My memory is my whiteboard:)

Also with the 60 your pro gear choices are a lot larger.

And noone has alloy spools for the 8 3/4 anymore, that I know of for 35 spline axles except MW, and for those make sure you get the axles splined for MW spline obviously. I looked for months and either I looked in the wrong place or I managed to find the last 2 new ones on the planet, I bought both that were in stock, they MAY run them again but they said they only sell about 3 a year so who knows on production, these were manufactured 2 years ago.

The only thing, is if you are going to get the Moser for a Drag Pak car, make sure they dont put the brackets on, have your builder do that, the location was based on an earlier layout from Mike at MPR, that changed, and last I heard the Moser was in the wrong location, I got mine without, but the vent was drilled and tapped where a bracket is supposed to go.

Also if your going with an aftermarket 489 case, they are backordered big time, check with Moser (they sell them) but last I heard was MAYBE late Dec or Jan. I dont do maybes so......

Cheers

Chris

The Dana is just a little more weight and a ton stronger.

"A little more weight" is correct, not much in the case of moly tubes on an aftermarkey like an S60 or M60 housing. 15 lbs maybe 20

A little more weight here a little more weight there......

Obviously its everyones personal prefs, I come from a motorcycle, (Vintage GP) background, Ive been known to swisscheese vintage mag grimeca setups (and oddly Ive never broken one) for an ounce of mass so.....

I am of the opinion I would rather run the bare minimum and distribute the weight EXACTLY where I want , and understandable break things as a result, Im under no illusion there, Id rather break here and there than than add a little weight here or there. When Al Smythe noticed the Drag Pak cars have no pistons on the trunk, he said for a few bucks put them on so it dosent wack someone, I was thinking, hmmm...no pistons....that means the lug balls are redundant and I can loose them....

I took over 15 lbs of body sealer out of our Drag Pak car.....I went with the lightest of everything including our steering wheel. Ill be able to put any of that weight exactly where its needed instead of distributed piecmeal through the car.

Just my 2 cents.......

And in an automatic at 3100 it shouldnt be a problem with the 8 3/4 the housing (stock) is obviously a weak link but this isnt that housing, and the 3rd member with its caps, but were not running that either....were using an aftermarket unit....and since I was able to wrangle up a pair of alloy spools at 4.7 lbs each....I think our 8 3/4 will be just fine :) It actually (and I knew this before I went down the road) cost all total about $300 more than a 60 setup.... $100 per 5lbs is acceptable at this point. \

But to make me happy, I will have one seriously swisscheesed steering wheel rim on a custom wheel....lol
