Should be easy ? to get answer to

I would think there are numerous out there that know this,,,,,,

What is the weight difference between a small block/glide and a big block/turbo?

Think 68 Camaro application here.

100#?
125#?
more?
less?

Thanks,

Unk

Bob----
Approx weights in Pounds

Engines:
steel head/intake SBC --575
steel head/intake BBC-- 685

Transmissions:
PG--95
Turbo 350--125
Turbo 400--195

TRANS WEIGHTS LESS CONVERTOR & FLUIDS-- ADD APPROX 25-30 LBS FOR CONV.--ADD 2 POUNDS PER QT TRANS FLUID

these are just ball park figures a lot depends on if you have trick or lightened parts in trans --small convertor(7/8in)---deep or stock pans---shorty or regular length tail case etc. Hope this helps -Comp 387

Approx. 226 lbs difference between a 396/325 HP 1968 Camaro with a 400 turbo and a 1968 350 Camaro with a P/G. The weight difference would of course be less if you ran a 350 Turbo or a 200 metric behind the 396.

That TH400 weight of 195lbs seems high?
I believe there to be approx. 30 lbs difference between the glide @ 95 lbs and the Th400 @ 125 lbs.

Not sure but your wallet would be lighter because the metric wont last very long behind the big block.

Metric 200 trans weighs about 35 pounds less than a Turbo 350 trans---another thing to consider is it takes about 45 HP/400---30 HP/350---20HP/PG -powerloss going thru the transmission to the drive shaft---If $$$ is not a concern and you want a BALLS OUT racing trans talk to Scott McClay---if you are going STOCK/SUPER STOCK racing talk to Billy Lynn he builds lots of them his prices are fairly (he-he) reasonable--If you ever saw the inside of a "stock" 200 trans you would wonder how the hell they ever hold up in normal street use---- weight/ HP is the limiting factor on a 200---350 will take quite a bit of HP/Torque compared to the 200---call around talk to the trans guys they won't bull**it you--- Comp 387

FED 387 sed:

"about 45 HP/400---30 HP/350---20HP/PG"

But, how much for the metric-200, and just for the sake of comparison, how much for a 904 T-Flite?

Any information will be appreciated!
