Re: Racing seats in stock?
It makes perfect sense to me, and then some.....especially if the weight is compensated
Even "Accepted" seats with friggin covers to maintain somewhat stock appearance if thats the concern about keeping appearances, Im sure the seat makers, and year one, etc would be happy to offer vinyl for them :) I would Think its a saftey issue that could be addressed. Hey, maybe theres a market for "Bench Racing Seats".....lol....a small market but a market nonetheless....... Quote:

Re: Racing seats in stock?
It should be a matter of safety first.
I have a set of front seats out of a 2004/05 Dodge stratus so that I have adjustable headrest (shoulder harness goes through opening) but it also has lumbar adj and tilts a little. and yes my car is a bracket car not a stocker. But again it should be a matter of safety, that's like saying it's safe for a 1966 Chevy 283 stocker to just have a lap belt. |
Re: Racing seats in stock?
we want to change the seats, the rockers, the lifters, the intake manifold, what the hell add a set of big tires and kill off stock and you will be in super stock before you know it !

Re: Racing seats in stock?
Comparing changing out the seat to changing engine parts is apples and oranges.
Does a seat impact performance? No Does a seat change the weight of the vehicle? No (Minimum weight is the same) It is a 100% safety issue and I am in favor of that kind of rule change. |
Re: Racing seats in stock?
I think its real funny all the new safety stuff NHRA requires, however their own rule book prevents us from making the car safer by installing a race seat. NHRA should really consider what will happen if someone wrecks and injures themselves due to a stock seat failing. It will be their fault. The seats in new cars are designed to fail under a certain impact to prevent whiplash ( the back gives way), and 40 year old seats are questionable (afterall we have to replace the belts every two years). They are open to a lawsuit if anyone get seriously hurt with a stock seat in the car, because they were not allowed to change it.
