outlaw 8.5
 
someplace i read about somebody starting an outlaw 8.5 tire class.
at the time i didn't give a sh.... but i mentioned it to the guy that was narrowing my r.e. housing and his ears perked up and want's to know more.
anyway, anybody have any info, contacts, anything?

Check out outlawstreetmadness.com They are a midwest based series and have had an 8.5 class for a few years now. really amazing stuff on those space saver spares!!

I gotta say that I am suprised that "Dedicated to Saftey" NHRA allows this "small tire" big power racing to happen on a NHRA santioned track. I`ve seen some of this 1500+HP 10.5" tire racing, and frankly, much of it is an accident waiting to happen. If they are not blowing the tires off on the starting line, they are swapping lanes or smacking the concrete walls with far too much regularity. The same thing with many stock chassied, street tired late model Mustangs and such, equipped with big boost or nitrous, and a young driver with no brains. too often there is fluid & chunks on the track, or paint rubs on the concrete!

Spectators seem to love any sort of heads-up drag racing, and I can see why. It's easy to understand and follow. Unfortunately, from the racer's perspective, heads-up drag racing usually translates to "he with the most money wins".

This class started in the Ohio Valley Outlaw Series (OVOS) several years ago. They didnt run it at Ohio Valley this past year due to low car counts. I think they did run it in the OSM Series. Several track around the southeast have similar classes. Like has already been mentioned it takes mid 5 sec 1/8 mile passes to be competitive in this class.

As long as the chassis certs and other safety equipment is correct for the E.T. I dont see the problem. That is what makes the heads up outlaw stuff enticing to me......being able to put big power down on a small tire, oh and in most of the classes do it with no wheelie bars. Hell you cant even find many stockers these days without sissie sticks hanging out the back.
