Fuel Pump Location

I have an 86 Camaro and in the Stock Elim. rules, it is stated that the fuel pump must be "installed outside of passenger area". Because this is a hatchback car and we are installing a fuel cell, we need to build a rear firewall. The plan was to mount the cell and pump in the trunk area and make a box with a hinged lid to act as the firewall. Is mounting the pump in the trunk, but contained inside the box considered "installed outside of passenger area"?? Thanks.

I had my pump and cell in the boot or trunk area on a 87 Firebird stocker. Had a metal lid covering it, that the hatch held down when closed.

Never had any problem with tech, NHRA or IHRA, with this set up.

Good luck with it.

Always better to mount the pump below the tank, I like to use the rear part of the diff. floor pan kick up, with the fuel pump mounted with the impeller down.

This is all you need :

We did some measuring and made sure that the pump inlet will be below the fuel cell sump, even when keeping both inside the trunk area and the cell won't be too high to look out of place. Thanks.

I don't know if you can see it, but I built a 4-5 " riser to mount the cell on, for that reason and to make it more accessible.
