NHRA Horsepower Rating
How would one go about trying to get the horsepower rating for your car reduced? Is there a formal procedure you have to follow with the NHRA?
Opinions? |
Re: NHRA Horsepower Rating
Yes, there is a formal procedure. You write a letter to NHRA stating your case, and you need to use statistical evidence to prove your case.

Re: NHRA Horsepower Rating
This has been hashed over a few times before. You make a bunch of flat out runs.If you are around .4-5 under or less submit the time slips with a request. If you have a combo that the average car is going fairly fast you might be out of luck.I don't know what the
threshold is though. You submit it to national tech in Glendora. Since the .3 index hit the numbers might be different now.Wouldn't surprise me if they don't know where to go with it now. |
Re: NHRA Horsepower Rating
In 2005 I wrote a number of letters to NHRA on horsepower. I think it was Jim skully I talked to. He suggested that I compare the horse power on my combo with other comparable combination. He said to use as many spec. comparisons as possible to show why mine ..needed to be adjusted down. There was a certain date you need to have you letter in by. Sometimes, you can make matters worse for yourself. Our wagon with 360 was factored at 285HP at that time and same engine was 274HP with same specs in 2 door car ! When the new specs. came out in Jan.... they dropped the 2 door to 270HP and raised our wagon to 289HP..... OUCH:confused:
