Converter question
I changed converters on my TH400 and now have .280 thou. clearance between it and the flexplate. I have never had to use shims before, last converter had .125 thou. I know the standard is 1/8 to 3/16 of an inch, but is the low or high measurment better? Are good quality washers a good choice for shims? Thanks.

Re: Converter question
I don't know if it's the "right" thing to do but we ran washers in Dad's bracket Camaro for about 8 seasons with no trouble.

Re: Converter question
Yeah, you can use washers alright. Just match them within a couple thou. Make sure you still have some pilot in the crank. Most aftermarket stuff doesn't have as much pilot as the OEM did. You want to use as much of the pump drive as you can on the hub end.
