Stock Tech Question

My brother is looking to buy a local ET Bracket car and convert it to a Stock Eliminator car. Have most of the pieces to put it together. It has a factory floor but has the leaf springs moved into the frame, but the factory frame rails are still there with the factory spring mounting holes. So moving the springs back to the factory location is not a problem. But the car has aluminum wheel tubs. Is it possible to install steel wheel tubs in place of the aluminum and be legal for Stock, provided the steel is at least the same thickness as the factory?

Re: Stock Tech Question

Wheel tubs (steel or alum) are not allowed in stock.
You will need to replace the wheel tubs with stock pieces cut
out of a donor car.

Or run the car as a Superstocker instead and keep the wheel tubs.

I have a '97 Mustang that I was considering as a stocker project car. Can anyone give me a list of parts (chassis and engine/driveline) that are allowed to be changed/removed and/or altered? I know this may be a broad question so a reference point would also be appreciated! Is the NHRA rule book the only source for the information? Would there be a prefered combination in anyones view?
Thanks for any input!
Rich

...not the only source, but probably the best. If you build to NHRA rules, the car will be legal for IHRA. You can refer to the IHRA book on their website, non-members as well.

In a nutshell, the suspension components must be stock or bolt-on replacement - no tubular components up front. Aftermarket adjustable struts/shocks in the stock locations are OK. The rule book should be your reference guide for engine building but working with a known engine shop familiar with Stock Eliminator rules "interpretation" is recommended.

Have fun!!

Stock Tech Questions

Wondering about NHRA Stock rules for framerails, can they protrude through the floor boards? They do right now stick up approximately one inch through the floor.

Also if there is a roll bar installed already do I still need a back seat? Can the seat be cut to accomodate the roll bar? Can the battery be relocated to the trunk?

About the trunk, it is pinned with hood pins right now, do I need to install the stock trunk hinges? I think a fuel cell in the trunk is legal now, any suggestions or recommendations?

Frame rails thru floor ,OK.........no back seat ,OK ,with steel or aluminum firewall.........Battery in trunk ,ok as long as the origional battery is retained in the front. ...Both batteries are supposed to be the same also, but I rarely see that enforced.........Hinges must be replaced ,hood pins OK with original latch installed....................Fuel cell ,OK................Tom
