too much traction
unlike most of you guys, my car has way more traction than it needs. this is a '56 Nomad with a 265- 2.64 low w. 5.67gear.
i built a set of slapper bars, which work to the point of pulling the front wheels up a few inches. however the engine will not carry through. i don't want to have to launch at 8K ! i tried a set of rear adj. shocks to limit body rise, which made matters worse. i now have a set of adj front snubbers [to limit front end rise and thus stop load transfer], but not used them yet. i wonder about; 1. clamping the front half of the springs and then lowering the bars so the bar snubber contacts later. 2. buying a set of Cal-Tracs, assuming that they can be made to react slower. the car really needs to spin the tires to leave. any ideas? thanks for the help rod |
Re: too much traction
Yeah put front runners on the rear.
But seriously why not a smaller tire ? or different compound. Your problem is not unique, I have a very good friend an x baja guy who well VW's are his passion.....he had a 450hp twin turbo motor (2.5 liters I want to say) when he took it out of the car as it was too unpredictable, he went to drag race it with a (2 liter stroker) this has all been 20 years ago so my memory on exaclty which motor I cant remeber.....No torque obviously out of a NA 2.0 bugger. Same thing, he would light it up and wait for the car to catch up to the tires as it were. The same was also (in the bug and small displacment motor world) seen fairly frequently on VW dragsters in the late 60's early 70's Street tires ? The rule " Street-type or drag slick tires, maximum 9-inch tread width " Id look into tires.....just a thought, maybe it dosent fit your scenario..........tires man ... tires.... You said it yourself, the car needs to spin the tires to leave right....maybe in gearing something could be done....but other than that Tires....? Armor all on your tires before you run....I dont think the next guy donwn the track would like that......lol....about as much as me pumping about 2 gallons of methanol out at the 30-60 and noone knowing it, not even me, next guy had a wild ride :) (the armor all was a serious joke all who dont have a sense of humor, or dont get mine) Quote:

Re: too much traction
Are you running a slipper style clutch? You probaly need a lower first gear also.
Thanx Trevor |

Re: too much traction
What size tire do you run? Is this car just for fun or are you racing a class car? Stock Super Stock etc? What has been done to the engine, headers etc? My father and I run this combination, this why I asked so many questions. Thanks. Do you have any pictures?

Re: too much traction
Whats that flywheel weigh? Add a few pounds and wind it up...

Re: too much traction
Low gear in the 3-teen range. Ditch the T-10 for a Jerico or similar. Proper race clutch and flywheel assembly. In that order...
