Dana 60 axle bearing part II

Ok I pulled the axles. I have the bearing with an oring that has the retainer pressed onto it. There is an inner bearing also. The retainer mounts to the axle tube to hold it in. So I in turn ordered a rear disc brake set from wilwood. They said they sell two types for dana 60 one with the snap ring bearing and the type I got. They explained you have to press the retainer off the bearing because the new caliper mounting bracket is made to hold the axle in. Well I got the kit today and two problems. One the bracket will not fit over my bearing. My bearing is way to big. Second the hat will not fit over my axle studs. So do I need to buy a different bearing? I was told there was only one bearing w/o snap ring. Any info is appreciated. Sorry so long. Ed

Ed, it sounds as though you have what are called "green" bearings. They were designed as replacement to the factory stuff except they do not need adjustment. What is the part # of your kit? The hat will probably require drilling for 5/8" studs.

It is the wilwood 0260 BD kit. The instructions say you must press off flange bearing and replace with green bearing. I love this stuff. Ed

PS Some one in the past took the liberty of welding the inner bearing to the axle. You got to love it.

Maybe so. What's the O.D. of the actual bearing?

It's held on by 5 nuts guys. I can get you the OD tommorow. Thanks. Damn looks like I won't be testing this week either.

Called Wilwood today. They said you must press off bearing I have(mine is to big for caliper plate) and replace with RP400 green bearing. They say the 400 bearing fits the caliper plate. Well one problem with that. The green bearing is smaller so if you slide in the axle it will not fit correctly. It would not fit properly at housing end. They said sorry no other options. What am I missing here? WTF??????

I attached these diagrams. This is the housing end I have. The other one shows the caliper mounting bracket. The bracket is machined so the bearing can fit it. My bearing is way to big to fit the bracket.

What spline axle's are you running and what's your bearing OD? I run 40 spline Mark Williams axle's in my car and you have to use there housing end's because the bearing is bigger. This might be your problem. These end's have the Mopar 5 bolt pattern just a bigger ID for the bearing. How i got the Wilwood brackets to work was, I took a stock Mopar housing end and bolted the bracket to the end and chucked it up in the lathe. Then cut the recess in the bracket to take the larger bearing, just make sure you don't cut the recess deeper just open up the OD! Hope this helps
