Drag Pak motors
Drooze has had a serious case of the new car blues with his Challenger. A few of these 6.1 Hemis have failed for different reasons. It appears Mr. Drooze is a hard worker and Im sure he will get this car straightened out. This 6.1 Hemi is a good engine. Indy Cylinder Head built my first Drag Pak motor and it was very reliable. It went 10.10 on its second pass and had had 89 passes on it before we pulled out just before Indy last year. The bearings looked good and engine could ran many more runs. Indy built a second motor that has pushed this car into the 9.7Xs. We are now shifting at a higher RPMs and pulled it out after 50 runs and the motor checked fine. I dont know how fast this combo will go but once the bugs are sorted out this is a great race car. So Drooze and other DP owners keep slugging and you will end up with good stocker. Thanks,Doug Duell

Thanks for the encouragement Doug.. We are all traveling down the same road. Some are ahead and others are at various stages behind.. But you are right we will get them figgured out... I talked to Drooze yesterday and he is still positive and has a great attitude and so does his Dad.... As long as we all work together for the good of all it will be smoother for some of us that are behind.... Again thanks for the encouragement... Mack |
Re: Drag Pak motors
I wish Drooze, his father and their sponsors the best. It sure has been one heck of a ride for them so far.
These new Hemi's are cabable of cranking out some serious power. You just gotta know what it takes to keep them happy at rpm. We're in our 5th year of our 5.7/6.1 engine program and are still finding a few weak links. Also as far as taking an 'as is' DP motor and running it? You'll probably be in the same boat as Drooze unless you keep the rpm's well below 6000, even then, that might be pushing it. I have more faith in spinning a factory built engine higher than 7000 which is about the rpm where the factory rods bolts start to stretch. I'm not here to knock Stanton's engine work, just Chrysler for supplying Stanton with a pile of missmatched parts like I found in our DP motor and personally seen on a couple others. |
