SS/GT weight

I have the rulebook and am looking at the SS/GT rules. My question is about the weight. Is the minimum weight the shipping weight of the car? My thought is to run a 1967 400 with the 670 heads in my 1976 Firebird, but i need to know how much the car has to weigh so i can see if the 400 will even run the numbers. Thanks for the help

Re: SS/GT weight

First you find the shipping weight of your 1976 Firebird, with the heaviest gasoline engine, and I believe that is 3575 lb (assuming it's a base model Firebird, not a Formula, Trans Am, etc.). Then you divide this number by the GT horsepower number of the 1967 motor. I think you would use the "Firebird, Non Ram-Air" rating of 315 hp. 3575/315=11.35 This puts this car in GT/GA (11.00-11.49). Then you use the minimum weight break of GT/GA which is 11.00 and multiply the 315 horsepower and add 170 for the driver. 11.00 x 315 + 170 = 3635 lb. You can move up and down one class from the natural class of GT/GA.

GT/FA: 10.50 x 315 + 170 = 3477.5 lb
GT/HA: 11.50 x 315 + 170 = 3792.5 lb

Hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but this should be in the ballpark and give you an idea what your car will need to weigh.
