I drove from CA to Las Vegas yesterday and took my chances by not buying one. Didn't see a highway patrol or dot/dmv vehicle. Maybe I was lucky?

Called Comdata to buy the permits, and it was $5 for a 24hr trip permit plus $.15/mile. Then they said I needed a $30 IFTA fuel permit, plus Comdata's $30 fee!

Good luck trying to decide what to do!

So how does Nevada get around the interstate commerce laws pulling stuff like this?

So far I have not heard of anybody pulled over entering Neveda on I-15 coming from California.

It depends on what you read, and where you read it, but it looks to me like private motorhomes are exempt. We'll see soon enough .
If not, you guys will be the first to hear about it,..I promise you that.

I talked to the motor carrier enforcement officer from Nevada DOV last week regarding this issue and their intention to stop every dually pickup towing a white box and ask them if they have purchased a permit (let's face it; they are ALL over 10,000lbs combined weight) and he said; "If you race for a living, if the driver of the rig is on company payroll, if the rig is registered to a company or a corp, if the truck, motorhome, or trailer is wrapped in corporate ID or logos, then you need a permit. It seemed that his main peeve had to do with the professional racers with obvious corporate ID all over their rigs travelling thru Nevada claiming to be "Joe hobby racer". on a non apportioned or motorhome license.

All this being said; remember that Nevada has no scales and does their enforcement with rolling units but if your rig has corporate ID all over the sides, don't be shocked if they stop you. I think some of the larger rigs with no lettering may also be targeted (possible paranoia on my part) but the obvious hobby racer is probably safe. It's just another revenue stream for the state in my opinion.

You can go to the NevadaDOV website and look under motor carriers for their point list but if you read it the way that I do, everyone towing a box not registered in Nevada needs a permit. By the way, the permit is good for 24 hours. Nice huh?

Mike call permits plus out in riverhead they will know what to do and also they can get any permits you need good luck out there Paul
