Solid aluminum helmet

LGT a amazing video of a 5-axis milling machine carving a full-size helmet out of a solid block of aluminum. How soon before NHRA requires one of these?

I can do that too...It's all in the model and the machine..lol..Sometimes I have to do 5-axis work on a 3-axis mill. It's neat no less. I got to see this some time ago. Anywho...Specialty machining is exactly what I do.

I heard Bill Simpson just bought the patent and is planning on engraving the SFI Approval into the helmet as part of the machining process.....should be a winner :p

Being an old geezer I remember Clymer brand racing helmets in A.M.A.motorcycle 1/2 mile dirt track racing around 1949 and later. They were also used by Indianapolis U.S.A.C. drivers. I personally wore one in drag racing in 1958 and 1960
in my N.H.R.A. Altered Roadster.
The helmets were lined with cork inside the aluminium cup and had leather straps for around the neck. They also had a small bill on them.
