Comp Cam Break-in Lube (Part # 159-12)
Does anyone have any experience or knowledge about using this product as a "leave in" additive with a full synthetic oil (Mobil 1) for racing applications.?

Since we're told the newest oils don't have the needed additives (due to the need to lower additives to protect catalytic convertors) to protect our engines, especially under the stress of racing. Does this idea make any sense?

My local Chevron distributor still carries the older CI4+ Delo 400 (15-40) oil. If the bottle says CI4+ but doesn't say it meets CJ, it will have the good additives in enough quantity for flat tappet engines.

Ray,
Are you talking about your roller cam SS/CS engine or something else? Because you don't need anything but oil for a roller. If it's a flat tappet, get a hold of me as my shop has coatings to the cam and lifters. They have completed R&D and will soon be released. You can have race springs installed (460#'s +) and start the engine up and let it idle. No break in, no spring changes required. Applied to your parts or custom built from the shop. Ed,
I was addressing the cam & lifters being coated, not addressing the rest of the engine. Although I've never used additives and haven't experienced those issues you mentioned, better safe than sorry and I see no downside in the additives. |

Hey...just by chance, I picked up a copy of "Drag Racing Action" (July/10 Issue) and on page 31 there is an article titled "Blame it on...Clean Air". The subtitle is "The reduction of Zinc in oil will create wear problems". Contributors are Castrol, Comp Cams, Lucas Oil and Valvoline. Interesting reading.
