Aa/s stock (?) mustang

I was just BSing with a friend of mine who was at Atco last week and observed the AA/S Blown Mustang run a 9.41 at 147+ MPH. The 60 FT. was 1.24. Hummmm, it looks like they have found a way to get them to run on the bottom end. NHRA told the owner/driver he couldnt set the record. Sounds fishy to me. Maybe the AHFS would have put the Mustangs out of stock and made them S/S only. Ford wouldnt have liked that. Any comments?

Around our "Mopar Only" shop, there sure has been alot of talk from our customers about the Mustang's lately. 1.24 60' will only add fuel to the fire.

These purpose built race cars have ruined the class. Nice job NHRA, Ford, and Mopar...

Haven't ruined the class yet, but Chevy will follow.

Considering he left almost a half second on the table, I can see why he's been told to "stand down"

I was there and watched the run. Very strong and the HP is clearly evident down track....... Engine is very quiet and docile sounding coming down the return road. No where near as efficient at getting down the track as most wrung out manual trans Stockers.

After the combo reaches the maximum alowable ballisted wt added over the factory shipping wt. which in NHRA's case is 7.5 lb per HP (AA/S) the combo becomes a S/S only car classed car until the same thing happens at 6.0 lbs per HP (SS/A) in S/S. By then NASA would be looking at it for a booster in then defunct shuttle program. It wouldnt be legal to run the Mustangs at say....around 5000 plus lbs not including the driver wearing an SFI space suit. lol.

That racer was Don Fizell - his 9.41 run put him #1 in qualifying at 1.18 and change under which would have no AHFS effect .As for the National Record anyone know who from NHRA supposedly told him he couldn't set it ......and why would they ?

I knew it was Don Fizell but didnt want to mention names to protect the innocent....lol. . The story I heard was second hand and we all know how stories get distorted. He was told "no go" on the record because they (NHRA) couldnt certify the engine. Dont know if it was because they didnt have the right tools, enough time, or what. The racer I was talking to said he thoiught they didnt have the engine specs? That dosent sound right in any case to me and I told him so. The engine specs have to be in the spec book for the combo to be in the class guide. Im sure someone could fill in the blanks here but will they or do they want to. It just sounds like a lot of BS to me and we all know Don runs legal. He can afford to run any combo he wants and have the best prepare his engine. Anyone who owns "The Old Reliable" 63 Z-11 and acually runs the car on the track cant be a bad person.....lol. Now we know why NHRA dropped the indexes 3 tenths. Thats a killer run and only 1.18 under the new indexes......lol. Has ANY AA/S combo been anywhere near 9.40's ? How fast can the Mustangs really go when beat on?
