Leasing/Borrowing Motors in Stock & SS

Does anyone lease or borrow motors to qualify with? Just curious.

I've seen engines be borrowed, because of a failure but never just to qualify with, that's for the P/S guys. Joe

There is potential money to be made in leasing motors for Stock/SS. Especially now that local combo racing (no heads up runs) is growing in popularity across the country.

As an example, an engine builder could stock pile a type of engine that fits several classes. A racer could lease the engine for a certain amount of time. These would not be killer pieces but would be able to run under the index. Even at a National event as long as the racer does not have a heads up run, he can have a consistent running engine that he can afford to race. At the end of the contracted time he turns in the engine, signs a new contract and gets a fresh one to continue on with.

Leasing motors already very common and popular among the oval track racers, from open wheel Modifieds all the way up to Sprint Cup. WJ

What about teardowns? Who is responsable for the disassembly and assembly of a leased engine? The Pro Stock guys are not allowed to open up a leased engine. If found ILEGAL who is resonsable for the infraction? The owner/driver of the car or the engine builder? I always thought the owner/driver was responsable for being DQed no matter who built the engine. Many questions need to be addresed if this is to be allowed.

Terry, I would think that as far as NHRA or IHRA would be concerned, it's the driver/owner's responsibility. He may have a complaint with the engine guy, but it would be no different than you building a motor for a customer and he fails tech, he can't complain to NHRA, he complains to you, his engine man.

A what price?
Pro stock teams pay $50.000 to $70.000 a race..
Good SS motor cost over $20.000
Cant see it being affordable..
How about a H/SA rental?
