Looking for a ballot.
Does anyone out here have a ballot from 1981 when we supposedly gave away our voting rights with NHRA? This is the ballot they sent to the members for us to return to give the board control without any input from the members. I am doing a little research project and would like to see what it looks like. I have a copy of the letter they sent out but do not have a copy of the actual ballot.

Re: Looking for a ballot.
Can you post a copy of the letter? I'm curious.

February 17, 1981 Dear NHRA member: Since it's origin in 1951, the National Hot Rod Association has been operated as a non-profit organization, incorporated in California. Recent changes in California's corporation laws require modifications to our by laws, and further require that modifications to our by laws be circulated to the membership for review and ratification. In order to comply with this new law, we need your cooperation. A copy of the bylaws is enclosed, along with a self mailer ballot which we would like you to fill out and return. In order to be counted, your ballot must be received by March 25, 1981. Further the law requires that 7,000 NHRA members vote on these bylaws, and at least three-fourths of those voting must vote favorably for the adoption of the bylaws. We will appreciate your prompt response and we thank you for your cooperation. Sincerely, Wally Parks President. |
Re: Looking for a ballot.
I also have a copy of the bylaws which were mailed at the same time. The big change that I see is this. " Members shall not vote for directors[board members], on proposed mergers, dissolution, disposition of all or substantially all of the assets of the Association, or on the amendments or repeal of the bylaws. "
This basically takes control from the members and gives it to the board of directors which now is made up of the management. |
Re: Looking for a ballot.
I have been a member of NHRA since 1971-2--- I do not remember EVER seeing/hearing/receiving any literature/mailings/ballots etc. regarding any voting to change the way NHRA is/was being done. If this was a seperate mailing NEVER got one--If it is/was printed as part of an issue of National Dragster it is "remotely possible" that I might of missed the article and/or put it aside fully intending to read/vote/take care of it at a later date. But, NO never ever heard or remember anything about a ballot. Comp 387

Re: Looking for a ballot.
It was a separate mailer that went out and consisted of a copy of the new bylaws, the letter I posted above and a mail in ballot.

Re: Looking for a ballot.
Let's not make this political. I know there are members out there who remember this. If you are reluctant to post on here e-mail me at gph.hill@insightbb.com .

Not me! I have been a member since 1976. I never received such a thing. I would remember. Jim

Re: Looking for a ballot.
It mite be that they only sent out a cross section of membership showing a majority when returned. That way less to send out making it cheaper for printing and postage.
