Head and Neck systems
Over the past weekend I had the oppurtunity to try on a HANS device and also looked closely at a Safety Solutions system... I really like the Safety Solutions unit, especially the way it can stay in the car...
Anyone like to comment on real world experiences....comfort, ease of use, etc... Price is about the same for both so I dont think thats an issue... I also noticed (again) that the Fuel Drivers seems to lean towards the Safety Solutions, vs the Nascar guys seem to go for the HANS.... |
Re: Head and Neck systems
Dave,
I'm looking at getting one myself after seeing Tom's Accident at Atco. I know when the original ones first came out everyone was concerned because of not being able to move their heads and look for the other driver. Since the original ones came out they now have ones that adjust and stay in the car (Safety Solutions) or the Hans one that some use. I know Super Gas driver Pat Iannone uses one and maybe he can let you know how it feels in the car once he reads this post. Jeff Kundratic and Johnny D both are dealers for Safety Solutions and Jeff is going to be stopping by my trailer at the Dutch Classic on Friday to talk to me more about them. If anyone would like to get some more info on the Safety Solutions one, just PM me and I'll let Jeff know what time to stop by at the Dutch. Rob Keister 1198 S/Gas |
Re: Head and Neck systems
We use the Hans and love it. Small, comfortable, and we have the "sportsman" one that lets you rotate the head.

Re: Head and Neck systems
I have used a Hans since 2005 and it saved my big head from coming unattached to my neck on one occasion. There is no wrong answer to your question. They both are good products but are priceless when they are most needed. Flip a coin, buy one and dont look back.

Re: Head and Neck systems
I've used the Hans for the past 2 seasons and it just takes a little getting used to it. But as Mike said, it is priceless when you may need it most. I started wearing it after getting t-boned at Charlotte 2 years ago by a car going maybe 30 MPH. It was an eye opener to say the least. Rumor from a little birdie at Reading is that rule changes may be coming requiring everyone in a car going 180+ to have one.

Re: Head and Neck systems
I've heard the same thing, DE3.. I bought a HANS when I was driving an A/DA.. I got used to it pretty quick.. and because I would be chasing, I wasn't concerned with looking around too much.. I would, however like to take a look at Safety Solutions unit and compare it to see which one allows better head movement for the Super classes.. especially the one that mounts in the seat..

Re: Head and Neck systems
I know its not a popular decision or remark, but I'm surprised that NHRA hasnt already done something about making it manditory in some cases...
I can tell you, that taking a direct hit at anything over about 30-40 MPH is a HARD hit...I took a t-bone hit in the drivers side a couple of years ago and it rung my bell pretty good, and an almost head on into the wall at Atco this year going fast (not too far after the finish line) and my neck was really really sore for a while... Anyone going over 140-150 in chassis car really ought to be thinking about it, and like some others I can speak from experience... And please, please, put GOOD padding on your cage, anywhere you even DREAM your head can hit !!!!!!!!!!!! None of that cheap pipe padding !!!!! |

Re: Head and Neck systems
I know this might sound biased because we sell them, but the Safety Solutions R3 is what I use. It stays in the seat and is very comfortable, along with having adjustable tethers to adjust just how far you'd like to turn your head. We will have them available at the Dutch Classic for anyone wishing to try one out. It's really the type of device I believe you need to make a run with before purchasing, be it the Safety Solutions or HANS. It really is very easy to get comfortable with. We have two different versions; one that stays in the seat or the type you put on before getting in the car. Both are comfortable and easy to use. Re: Head and Neck systems
Hi All,
I've been using the Hans device for over 2 years now and I really like it. It takes a little getting use to at first hooking up the theathers but it's no problem. As far as turning I'm happy in the movement it allows. In my opinion it is an essential safety device that I would not run without. The guy I bought it from is an authorized dealer and is very knowledgable about the product. If you would like his name and number PM me. Regards to all, Pat I. SG1809 |
