Which engine are you running. Guys on here are going to need a little more info. I'd say out of the box no on the 1982 carb. Im no expert. Ed

Re: accepeted carburators on my stocker

When I was building my '73 Nova, I read the rule book to say "must be the correct year, make and model specified for car's engine".

Since my car was originally a 2 bbl. and I wanted to run it as a 4 bbl., I went out of my way to find a Q-jet for a '73 Chevrolet with the L48 engine and a automatic trans.

Ended up paying through the nose ($500) to get the right one from one of those restoration guys. This, when I had a whole bunch of Q-jets in the shop including a new 1975 carb that had gone through by Woodro Jossey.

Later, after I got the car out there, I'm told that any Q-jet would have been OK as long as it was the right size.

See, that's what happens when you take the east coast rule book too seriously.

You need to talk to Danny Ashley, and/or Dean Oliver, among others, both are members here. I'd be looking for a 69-75 4MV genuine Rochester QuadraJet, with a "704" number on the side, such as a 7040203, or a 7045213. Those numbers are just examples. The "704" means it is a 4MV divorced choke style carburetor, the next digit is the year of manufacture, and the last three are the "model". You may need to find several cores in order to get a good one. And you'll find that what looks good on the dyno may or may not run good at the track.

Matt:
You can use ANY Buick, Olds, Pontiac, Chevy, or Cadillac Q-Jet as long as the primary venturis measure 1.093 which is a 750 CFM. The only exception is the 1971 Pontiacs known as "Single Boosters" numbers being 7041263, 7041267,7041268, 7041270, and 7041271. NHRA has deemed these illegal on a Chevy. Give me a call if you are unsure what you have @ Q-Jet Performance 765-674-5102. Danny

Hey Mat, I am a big time stock eliminator fan. I bracket race myself but always admire the Chevy stockers. Anyway I have a few Qjets that are completely stock and would need to be gone through. We live in the same part of the country as I am in south eastern Ontario. If you need a core I have # 7045213 and a # 17057213 really cheap ...

Prefix 170 de carburateur employé a partir de 1976
8 production de la décenie 1980
1 année du carburateur 1981
2 Model Quadrajet Carburetor (4BBL) Federal standard
Les autres chiffres représente la division GM et les numéros pairs = transmission automatic et impairs = transmission manuel.
Les lettres sont probablement un broadcast code et les dernier chiffres la date précise de production.....
De 1965 a 1969 un prefix ''70'' était courant.
Bonne chance Mat, salutation Ã* ton paternel.
