GM A Body ??
Can you remove the blower moter, and heater box from the engine side of the firewall. What about the inside part of the heater box can you remove that as well. I know you need to leave the controls in place and would have to fill the holes in the fire wall as per general regs.

Re: GM A Body ??
Yes and yes. I removed the original heater box on my "A"-body Olds and used it as a template to make a replacement out of flat aluminum sheet. There are even company's that are selling these, BMR out of Florida, if I recall.

Thanks for the replies. It seemed to me like there is some weight there that could be used elsewhere.

Re: GM A Body ??
I received this response from NHRA. Just thought I would share the information.
On page 9.10 of the current NHRA rule book under Street Equipment it states " The following are not required and may be removed: emission controls; windshield-wiper blades, arms and motor; heater/air conditioning and associated plumbing (controls must remain in dash; see INSTRUMENTS); ......". On page 9.11 under Instruments it states " Full stock dashboard, including instruments, fresh-air ducts, and controls, must be retained. ......" So to answer your question, you can do #1, the Heater Blower motor and #2, Heater housing on the firewall but not #3, Inside heater housing and associated ductwork. thanks for asking, Ryck Campbell NHRA, Northeast Division Technical Director Tech Line: 315-335-8295, Mon & Thur 7 - 9 pm |
