Royal Purple.....
What is the residue left behind in the oil pan after using RP? I've never noticed this with Redline or Gibbs, at least not much. This "fallout" is thick and takes some doing to remove, kind of like a paste. Any ideas?

Re: Royal Purple.....
I have had that myself with RP, But I always had good luck with it,so I never worried, my bearings always looked good on my stocker w/RP #9.Changed oil every 40 runs.

Re: Royal Purple.....
Are you sure that it's not leftovers from your assembly lube?

Re: Royal Purple.....
It can also be "fallout" from the racing fuel, and condensation. I found it in one of ours, that had never seen anything but Joe Gibbs. The engine was actually in decent shape, the bearings looked okay, but it had well over 200 passes on it and it was dead tired.

An engine shop I used to work for saved some of the used RP, after sitting a while a black film would form at the bottom of the jug, not sure if it is the same black paste you are referring to. |

Re: Royal Purple.....
Wade, let me give u my 2 cents as i have run a oil company for the last 15 yrs and have
extensive lube tech background, what you have going on is additive precipitation, it happens after running and especially in drag cars because of the hot cold cycling. Additives are stable at room temp but when subjectided to our radical temp swings will fall out of suspention. Break in lube is the worst for this as its heavily fortified with all the good anti wear extreme pressure additives but they do settle out as they are only semi-soluble.. Besides that i have a idea or two that will help break-in and all out performance. P.M. me and we can discuss it... |
