Professional product harmonic balancer anybody used them
These seem really light in weight. Has anybody have problems with them was also tooking on ATI site and they showed one that came apart and looks like the professional product. Also looking at Pro Race balancer but are heavier. This is for a small block Ford.

Just spend the money and buy the ATI you won't be sorry. I know people that have used the Professional product balancer, and the all have ATI now. Hope this helps.

Re: Professional product harmonic balancer anybody used them
ATI has bulletproof lightweight balancers for almost any application. Do you think that the balancer is a good place to be "thrifty"? In the aftermarket, HP and otherwise, there is always a temptation to rationalize the purchase of a product based solely on price; all other things seeming equal. I have never had this temptation work for me when buying parts for my race cars so I now purchase only the "best" parts; ATI would certainly reside at the very top of this category. Just my opinion. I have seen two of the inexpensive balancer's come apart, once you factor in the cost of a new radiator and getting your hood repainted the ATI seems pretty cheap.

Re: Professional product harmonic balancer anybody used them
I would stay away from that balancer. I believe it is made in China. I considered it also until I found that out.
As far as I am concerned chinese parts in our race cars should be verbotten! Only american and canadian in mine as far as I know. Allan |

Re: Professional product harmonic balancer anybody used them
My son has a 377 sbc that runs low to mid 11's and 10.0's tickled, is street driven with about 10,000 miles on it now. It has also endured countless sub zero temp start ups. This thing has been rev'd to the moon and back over and over again. Can we say abuse or what and so far knock on wood no failure with this dampner or any other components for that matter. Now having said that we didn't and wouldn't have chosen this part as a purchase but kind of inherited all the parts to put this motor together and didn't have anything more than gaskets and honing into it. Just a bunch of junk parts to go beat up on. We should be so lucky with our good stuff!

Re: Professional product harmonic balancer anybody used them
they are known for having fit issues, either having to be honed, or already being too loose. They also do a rather poor job of damping vibrations above 6500 rpm, from what i have heard. I sold a ton of them in the speed shop business, had a few come back looking like the ATI pics, and more than a few that just didn't fit well.

Re: Professional product harmonic balancer anybody used them
I have heard that there is one mfg in Australia that has a decent reputation?
Anyone have experience with that? I will be in the market for one for my 383 BB. |
Re: Professional product harmonic balancer anybody used them
I'm pretty sure that the SFI balancers sold by Pioneer through Summit are made in Australia. I have run them on my small block for many years with no problems whatsoever.
