A little NHRA trivia .........

1 Attachment(s)
Very little for sure ........Since we've been talking rules lately and I recently came across this NHRA 8" ruler - anyone know where it came from or what it was used for ? I haven't a clue where I got it ( probably stolen ) or who I got it from .....................Can you tell I'm a little bored waiting for my relatives to show up for dinner .I gave up going to the D1 banquet for this mess - but there are valuable points involved and I may need them in a month or two .

Since it says 1992 it wasn't to measure 7 inch slicks. Lynn has a thought, but I won't go there!!
Have a nice dinner. Tell Deb hello for us.

And if you look closer you'll see it's a 7 1/2" ruler.

In the old days, they poured water on the ground, pushed the rear tires through the puddle and used the rulebook to measure the 7" tire width on the wet track on the ground...and send you back to use the cheese grater, again, on the rear tires.

I had my tires measured a lot. Never like that. They did often use the rule book, but they just measured the tires directly. We did use Surform (sp?) (cheese grater style) body file. First time I ever won class at a nat'l event was the first Spring Nationals at Dallas Texas. Trimed them to exactly 7", Red Anderson checked us just before pulling out for class finals. At the scales they handed me a trophy to hold just for a picture (still have the picture), rolled up to fuel check, they measured tires again(with a ruler) and hot they were 7 1/16" wide. I got tossed. We cut them to 6 7/8" next time.

Rich - Please tell Lynn thanks for keeping her thoughts to herself as I'm no Johhny Holmes .

Ed F.- Yep , at first glance I thought it was 8" but its really 7 1/2" .

Danny - Nope - the "bored" part was real with no other agenda .......

Ed W . - Been there myself back in the day .............

The real answer -- whatever that is has so far eluded us ..........
