Question about blocking hyd. roller lifters
I have a street/strip '95 Impala SS. Car runs high 11s NA and high 10s on 150 shot at 4,000 lbs. and is set up similar to a Stock Eliminator car but is street legal. I'm fairly sure that LT1 guys ''block'' their lifters; can this be done to mine and is there a performance advantage. If so, how would I go about the process and is adjusting valves done differently. I have 1.6 Crane rollers with poly-locks. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks. Scott |

Comp Cams has a limited travel race style hydraulic roller lifter, you'd probably be better off to use them.

Re: Question about blocking hyd. roller lifters
Scott,
Your guess is correct, and this is not a big deal. Yes, you can buy them, and might be easier. You can also take one apart, see what is in there, and shim them. You do not want to remove all the travel... most I have seen still have about .020". I would not go any tighter than this, and might actually leave it looser on a street car. If you are very good about checking things often, then maybe run them tight. You still adjust the same as other hydraulic lifters. Good luck. Ken |
Re: Question about blocking hyd. roller lifters
You can also put solid rollers on the hyd.roller cam if you aren't restricted by rules. You'll want to keep lash .008 or less if you get over .008 it will beat on things bad,the solids are lighter you'll gain some rpm and pickup torque. Most of the stocker hydraulics have .015 of travel left in plungers.
