Newb stock or super stock question. . .
. . . so I'm sort of new to racing. I own a 66 Cyclone GT, pretty much all original with the exception of a few go-fast parts, lo-rise intake, dual quads, headers, 3.70 gears, traction bars. I am sick of car shows and cruise ins, actually tried to sell the Cyclone, no cash out there, decided I might as well have fun with it. I want to race the Cyclone but don't have a grip on the classes and what I can leave on or need to take off. I did a search and found the weight ratio and all that, but it's unclear if I can run the current go-fast parts. I don't expect to set the world on fire here, just want to have some fun. Any suggestions, ideas?

Re: Newb stock or super stock question. . .
You need a rule book first. And you need to understand up front that to be competitive in NHRA Stock Eliminator, you'll have to turn your car into a pure dedicated race car. You're talking about considerable work and expense.

I may be way off base here, I want to race a "stock" car, not stock eliminator. |

Like Alan said, you need a rule book first. You could race IHRA Pure stock.
You have to run the factory intake and carb(s)?. What type of trans is in the car? |

You may want to look at IHRA Pure Stock classes.

Looks like pure stock would be a good fit, will get my hands on a rule book, thanks guys!

Re: Newb stock or super stock question. . .
Your other choice would be to leave the car as is and race one of the
Summit Series in your area if NHRA tracks are more plentaful for you. In other words a bracket race, where you can leave the car as is and still have fun racing it, but not take it totally off the street. In any case you may have to make some changes to run either IHRA or NHRA, items like a blow proof bellhousing, add a driveshaft loop just to name two items. |

There's also the pure stock muscle car shoot out series. It's a qualify on Friday, matched to a competetor on Saturday with the races being the best two out of three heads up mini shootouts. It's a great time.

Thanks for the options guys. I live very close to Lucas Oil Raceway, will start going to their test & tune nights to get my feet wet and hopefully meet some racers with similar interest's.
