As long as it didn't get too hot, I'd have no problem whatsoever going .030.

Greg,
They make bearings to at least .040, maybe even .050. Guys turn them to small block size and race them with no issues so dont worry about grinding it that much. Just make sure it magnafluxes ok.

Greg, I have a 283 crank that was .050 mains, .060 rods. I ran it this way for a full season. It wasnt any faster than the others, but, lived just fine. Another failed experiment.........

The cast cranks are bad about cracking when they've been spun badly enough to need to go past 0.030" from standard size, if the rod throw has any real color in it, you're probably better off to find another crank. And check to make sure someone has 0.050" or 0.060" bearings in stock (make them go lay their hands on them) before you pay to have the crank ground that far. Those are not as easy to find as they once were, I'd hate to see you spend $150 or more grinding the crank and then not get the bearings.

ya know the thing dosen't look as though it got hot.....But I put a mic on it & it was .020 smaller then #2 needless to say the bearing was paper thin!

I have a fully done cast early 454 crank sitting in a box. Magged-shotpeeded- ground 010-010 and bagged.....

It has been sitting under a bench for years.....no one wants a cast crank and I have had it at a few flea markets with a cheap price on it...no takers....

I don't even recall why I have it!

Well the guy who's engine it is has decided to just buy a long block from Autozoo so dad & I put it back together today. ya know they go back together pretty quick when their's no rings on the pistons & you don't torque anything.
