AIr bag/lift system for pick up
Who makes a good air bag/lift set up for a '05 Dodge 2500? I like the looks of the Air Lift 5000.
Recommendations? George |
Re: AIr bag/lift system for pick up
I have used the Firestone Ride Rite air lifts in 2 GMC 2500 pickups and they work fine and never leaked. I have a Lance truck camper and put 50-60 lbs in the air bags when I use the camper....I usually put a little air in anytime I tow my trailer even though I really don't need to.....

Re: AIr bag/lift system for pick up
I have the Firestone kit in my '04 2500 Ram and the Air Lift in my Class C Motorhome. Both have performed flawlessly. Neither lose air after sitting a while. Jim

and also haul a cab over camper plus tow a open car trailer. I also have Rancho 9000 XL adjustable shocks all the way around on the truck. I normally keep 10 to 15 lbs of air when unloaded and then air up as needed when hauling a heavy load. |
Re: AIr bag/lift system for pick up
Don't think either system has a bad rap...but what I found helpful for towing the race trailer or our 15K pound fifth wheel is to review opinions on some of the RV Forums, I use http://www.rv.net/forum/ and found the tech section helpful. Once you've pulled Cabbage Hill or come down Donner Pass at 29 degrees and raining you start relying on the big RV contingent that travels all over the country...they have EXPERIENCE!!!
BTW, you can't beat Summit's price on the Air Lift 5000 if you order from them a lot and have their "pro" account. |

Thank you!
How about tires and tire pressures. George |
Re: AIr bag/lift system for pick up
I bought the Airlift 5000 system to replace the overload springs on my dually R20 Suburban because I needed more adjustability. Once the leafs are cranked up the ride is terrible when the trailer isn't hooked up. There are a few brackets that need to be cut from the frame for clearance so I'll be installing them later this month. They also recommend that some pressure (5 psi) be kept in the bags at all times, even when unloaded, to prevent them from chafing.
Good luck with your installation! Lew |
Re: AIr bag/lift system for pick up
Every truck I have owned has gotten air bags.
I prefer Air Lift products myself. I run 10 psi unloaded and 60 psi loaded. Well worth the money ! |
