London Pro Am

Car counts were low stock 17&16 not terrible,S/S 10&9 Thank's to Morris&Clark gang for help increase those#'s Q/R 3&5.
I wonder what hurt this race so bad,was it Fri/Sat,Mother's day, weather(which ended up great)? We need some feed back for Craig Boone, London track operator. He asked my opinion and I could'nt give him any exact reason, was it one the 3 things I mentioned or all or something else?
They did a really great job running this race, and treated everyone great,if you did'nt show you really missed a good weekend at a nice track.
If you missed this race you may have missed your chance to race a Pro Am at London, they took a real beating on the financial side, but you would never knew by the way they treated everyone, they kept on smiling, working hard and being friendly,I was impressed.

Re: London Pro Am

I would say all 3 are dead on. Weather....Fri/Sat ...Mother's day weekend + the weekend after 2 big Div. races Indy NHRA & Piedmont TOC on the IHRA side. Dad & I looked @ this race & were like ...we'll go. I then saw it was a Fri/Sat & said screw it. I had vac to go to Indy last week but went to Piedmont because of weather. Running races back to back (for someone like me) is just to much$$$ to do. That's why I'm not going to Norwalk this up coming weekend I need "funds" to build before I go out again....that being said I think I'll go to Mooresville June 4-5 ( I'm not an NHRA hater I like NHRA but money & weather) because it's a better date. Then I'll run Trails Div. race in July ( i hate trails but it's 80 miles for home). @ one time I hated it when IHRA & NHRA put races on top of one another BUT when they do it gives ya choices....if they would have that race @ London on Fathers day weekend & be a one day TOC race it would be Great!!

Mike,
This race was set up to fail.
1) Mothers day weekend. Big NO NO.
2) Friday/ Saturday double No way.

Just my opinion.

Re: London Pro Am

I was planning on attending, with diesel the way it is, it would have cost me $2700 for fuel, entry for two cars and food, race fuel, etc. Living in New Jersey makes it harder and harder to run these IHRA races (which I enjoy). I will not travel with only one car, so I will be racing closer to home @ division 1 for IHRA & NHRA.

if it werent for morriss/clarks, would have been really small turnout. i personally like the fri/sat cause it gives people that travel a long way Sunday to get home, or get ready for their work week. If this was a sat/Sun race, I would have had to take Monday off instead of Friday.

Friday, Saturday venue, WEATHER, and the biggie, fuel prices ($4.30 a gal diesel). It's 356 mis. one-way for us @ 11 mis. per gal. (do the math) We would have loved to have been there, but can't take a chance of driving all that way and watching it rain.

Roger, Thats only $35 bucks each way more than last year. Eat Hot Dogs instead of steak.

Rich, $2700 for fuel WOW.

Chris, You got one too.

Re: London Pro Am

actual figures; 775 miles each way...1550 miles @ 6 m to gal avg. 260 gals x $4.5 gal = $1170. entry fees $670 for weekend. Race fuel, ss valve springs (lol)food $300. Total= $2140. I ment to say 2100 not 2700, either way it is expensive for me right now even with sponsorships. I guess I am getting old too, I cannot handle the 12hr rides anymore, I qualified for the moser deal and that would be 13hrs and $2000 weekend. we will see....$22k to win

P.S I am one who really enjoys and wants to support IHRA as much as I can. The long hauls just
kick my *****

Re: London Pro Am

We went to London because Mike is running Division 3. First of all let me say I feel very sorry for the track owner as I know he took a beating this weekend. I think car count was down for many reasons

1. busy time of year...we are skipping Atlanta points meet because that will be 5 weeks in a row for us.
2. Friday/Saturday...I personally like it because we have Sunday to drive home but makes things difficult for work reasons.
3. weather...we ALMOST did not go because it was a 7 hour drive.
4. Derby weekend...big deal in KY and it was taking place less than an hour away.

have the race next year when racing in the South is slow....July and August are yes very hot, but schedule is much lighter during those months.

I will also add that I heard VERY bad things about the track prior to attending which were not exactly true. Yes the track was down a narrow, curvy road but parking was good and there would have been room for many, many more cars. Stands were nice, concessions stand was good, I have been told bathrooms were clean....and Saturday morning they worked on the track and Saturdays race was much better than Fridays (speaking of the track) We will support the race again (if they have it)
