Auto vs Stick
If a car is going 10.80 at 124 with a stick what would be the et and mph with a auto? Any ideas, I know that there is some factors to consider but if you took the stick out and put in a quality auto what would the difference be?

Re: Auto vs Stick
It depends more on the abilities of the manual driver than the switch of transmissions.

Re: Auto vs Stick
It depends on how much your converter is slipping if everything is equal, like rear end gear ,tire size and abilities of the manual driver.

Re: Auto vs Stick
Well, you will probably lose some manly hood as well as a couple MPH with switching to a slush pump-I mean automatic... lol

Re: Auto vs Stick
It depends a great deal on the combination.

Re: Auto vs Stick
In addition to overall combination, some automatics are more efficent than others. In my bracket car, with a mild 428FE Ford engine, and a fairly good C6 (low drag Torrington bearings thru out, Art Carr trans brake, 8" converter etc) the best the car went with the C6 was 10.55ET @126 MPH. With no other changes, other than replacing the C6 with a 4 speed Jerico & McLeod Soft Lok clutch, the car has gone a best of 10.03@132mph.

Re: Auto vs Stick
Just to show how wide a range this question encompasses I race the same track as Rory and went the opposite direction, 14.00 with a stick and 12.80 with a auto. It all depends on the combination.

Re: Auto vs Stick
ET will vary because there are so many variables. But MPH should almost always be better with a stick.
Remember, MPH is based off HP. ET is everything else that is involved with getting you from point A to point B. |
