Strange Master Cylinder
Any have any experience installing a Strange master cylinder on a first generation Camaro? I am converting my '68 Camaro over to disc brakes and I ran into a little snag.
The bolt pattern is about 5/16'' off and the adapter kit they give you seems a little bogus. Anyone have an elegant solution with or without the adapter kit they give you. Any pictures would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks! |
Re: Strange Master Cylinder
John, You don't need the adapter kit. Just slot the bolt holes outward til they fit.

Jim,
Thanks for the reply. I did think about doing that, but I was concerned that I would cause the master cylinder flange to become too weak. Is it stron enough to remove roughly an 1/8'' on each side? |
Re: Strange Master Cylinder
I slotted mine open both sides... It's been fine.

Re: Strange Master Cylinder
Be sure to put some kind of stop on the pedal to prevent it from coming back up far enough to disengage the pushrod from the master cyl.
A few of the members on this board have had some wild rides because of this. |
Re: Strange Master Cylinder
Tom is correct. I put a bolt/nut stop where the OEM brake switch was located.

Re: Strange Master Cylinder
Thanks all for the suggestions. Especially for the heads up on the push rod.
I filed out the master cylinder so the bolts would fit, then I used an after market clevis which is longer to make up for the short push rod. |
