1955 Chevy stocker? O/ P/ or Q stick or auto
Well here is a new update on my progress, based on the original post of 8/20/2011 Old JR. Stock racers, with a little hunting I have the 2 pieces of the puzzle that I needed I now have a perfect #2365S WCFB carb and the original intake #3711348 thanks to Butch in Everette, Wash for the deal on the intake both items for less than $300 bucks what a deal. Now on to the the next task, which class is attainable as far as minimum weight, the class that would be its most competitive,O/ P/ Q/, and then stick or auto? so put on the thinking caps and give me some input all opinions welcome, I know automatics thats not a problem, but stickshifts I would need some help, whats the way to go there. My friend Rob Youngblood will of course set the clutch up for me but what stick trans do you use for a 3 speed?

jerico would be the one
what a fun project |

Much more expensive with a stick shift.

The 265 isn't going to have enough hp to tear up a jerico. Especially with a soft lock or youngblood deal. I suppose you can get a powerglide cheap, but the fun factor has to drop like a rock compared to a stick.

I think I'd look for an old Doug Nash 4+1 . Use 1st, sec. and 3rd . Try to space ratios evenly and under drive the final for a bit more than the 6.14 you're stuck with in Stock .
Q/Stock..... and rev it up! |

Maybe a 5.86 with a 3.05 low, 1.8 second. 1.11 3rd , gives you a 6.50 high gear effect .

This better be a fun project, Ron & I run in SS and need 6.83 and even 7.17 gears to get that weight moving....we just don't think a stick will work. PG with 7" converter and utilize torque multiplication. You're stuck with 6.14...not good
In O, we help Tom Moock, he ran 12.12 at Earlville with poor bar pressure and he has a 305 with a big carb....no chance against 305's with that little WCFB spotting 40 cubes Hate to be a killjoy, but a very tough combo for Stock in our opinion.....still love the cars however....if you press on, good luck from us |

John, Maybe Doug needs a Rossi PG and converter, huh?
Here's how I see it: How many Q/Stick cars in Div 7? In the country? All ya gotta do is run 13.30's in the good weather.. Should be good for the index, rest of the year. |

P or O is not good here in D-1. Very fast S-10 here.
